Event Details

Two of Australia's most innovative instrumental acts come together for a night of virtuosic music.

FOURPLAY

FourPlay String Quartet defy convention and stereotyping. As much a band as a string quartet, they blur the boundaries between styles and genres while maintaining their own original and true sound. FourPlay write their own original compositions inspired by rock, pop, post-rock, neo-classical, jazz, klezmer, swing, folk-tronica, hip hop and more. They also perform covers by a diverse array of bands; from The Strokes and Radiohead to Charles Mingus, Robert Johnson and many, many moreno musical stone is left unturned.

FourPlay shot to prominence in Australia and Europe in the very late 90s as a unique musical phenomenon an indie rock band that just happened to be a string quartet! They achieved fame and (somewhat) fortune by establishing a blueprint for the DIY ethos with a rather punk attitude for people who had originally met through playing in orchestras. As no distributor was interested, they self distributed from the floor of their managers office, selling their first 1,000 CDs in three weeks and continuing on to be the first indie band to sell their CDs, in bulk, direct to the major chainstores of that time. FourPlay have toured internationally and released three studio albums, a remix album and a trilogy of mini CDs.

CIRCLE OF RHYTHM

The Circle of Rhythm is a collaboration between three of Australias most well respected, virtuosic and unique percussionists Greg Sheehan, Bobby Singh and Ben Walsh, known individually and collectively through their work in groups such as; Taikoz, The Bird, Utungan Percussion, Skin, Pablo Percusso, Dha and many more. After ten years of defining and redefining what Australian drumming can offer the world they have formed a percussion trio with a difference, rich in culture from the various styles all three dynamic performers have spent their lives exploring. The Circle of Rhythm is a truly individual rhythmic collaboration.
