Event Details

An artist that needs virtually no introduction, Eglo Records co-founder, classically trained producer, DJ’s DJ and NTS radio presenter Sam Shepherd AKA Floating Points, will make his long-awaited return to Australia in December for a series of DJ performances across Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Brisbane.

The Manchester born, London-based 29-year-old has established himself as one of the most respected and well-loved musicians in modern electronic music. A revered musical style and deep appreciation of jazz, soul and afrobeat has earned Shepherd admiration from artist peers including Jamie xx, Theo Parrish, Benji B and Ramadanman. As a co-founder of Eglo Records, Shepherd debuted his material on his own label in 2009, before going on to release with celebrated UK imprint Ninja Tune and deliver remixes for esteemed labels such as XL, Domino, and Fabric.

As prominent a name in the booth as he is in the studio, Floating Points is known across the world for his expansive DJ sets that incorporate vinyl-only sessions of jazz, soul, disco, Brasilian and electronica - Like his contemporaries and good friends Caribou and Four Tet, Shepherd has nurtured the Floating Points name into one renowned for ambitious and forward-thinking DJ sets, having performed all over the world at events and clubs such as Output NYC, Trouw, Sonar, Unit in Tokyo, Panorama Bar and, of course, Nuits Sonores (which lent its name to his seminal track from summer 2014) as well as the much missed Plastic People, where he held a residency for five years.

After several 12-inch releases last year, including the epic eight-minute "King Bromeliad", Shepherd now prepares for the arrival of his debut full-length, 'Elaenia' out on Pod via Inertia in Australia on November 6. Silhouettes, the first single released from the full length, is a complex arrangement of modern jazz and future soul that affirms Shepherd as one of today's greatest innovators in dance music and a welcome addition to Australian shores this Summer.
