Event Details

If you’ve got a musical itch, come and scratch it at this one-day workshop and take home your masterpiece.

We're rallying around International Women's Day by showcasing the practice of some fearless females who've made experimental music what it is today. Join artist, designer and gadget maker Annie McKinnon, who'll guide you through building your own experimental instrument.

Turn your sketches into sounds using a cool combination of electronics and sensors. Build a synthesiser to produce electronic sounds and learn how to change the beats, tempo and pitch of your synthesiser by drawing shapes into a musical score. If you're 15+ and want to follow in the musical footsteps of some outside-the-square experimenters, come and test out your ideas at this one-day workshop. Take home your musical masterpiece so you can keep building.

Annie McKinnon
Multi-instrumentalist, composer, designer and gadget maker, this tuneful University of Technology Sydney tutor and collaborator is known for out-there pieces like her looping and effects jacket.

Annie will take you through step-by-step directions in making a basic instrument and as a toast to International Women's Day, we'll have a peek into the practice of women pioneers in experimental and electronic music.

This session runs for 6 hours and caters for up to 16 people so bookings are essential. Tickets are $35 each and include all materials and electronic components but you'll have to bring your own lunch.

Waterloo Library is wheelchair friendly with a lift and an accessible toilet.
