Event Details

Comedy at the Basement continues to serve up an irresistible mix of some of the top names in Australian stand up, and stars in the making. The headline act for the evening is Matt Okine. Host of Breakfast with Matt and Alex on Triple J, Matt is indisputably one of the top Australian comedians working today.

His 2012 festival show 'Being Black N Chicken N Shit' had a sell-out season at the Brisbane Comedy Festival, won the Melbourne International Comedy Festival's award for 'Best Newcomer' and had a highly-acclaimed season at the prestigious Soho Theatre in London's West End. In 2013, Matt was nominated for Best Newcomer at the Edinburgh Fringe and won the Best of the Fest award at the Sydney Comedy Festival. Matt has also been a participant in the prestigious invite-only Montreal "Just For Laughs" Comedy Festival, the Holy Grail of comedians all over the world.

"Side-splittingly funny" - The Australian Times

Your MC for the night is Cameron Knight. Cam is a veteran of the Australian comedy scene, known for his high-energy performances and lightning fast wit. In addition to headlining countless comedy tours around the country, he's hosted television shows such as "Stand Up Australia" for the Comedy Channel and "Last Comic Standing" for Fox 8.

"Knight will have you in stitches from the first minute till the last..***** " - Adelaide Advertiser

Supports for the evening include:

Tom Ballard - Host of 'Tom and Alex' on triple j between 2010 and 2013, Tom started performing stand up while still in high school, and has not eased off the accelerator since. He became the youngest ever performer to win the Melbourne International Comedy Festival's 'Best Newcomer' award in 2009, performed in festivals here and abroad including the Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and has appeared on numerous TV shows such as The Project, Good News Week, and Spicks 'n' Specks.

"Tom is one of the most original, fearless and hilarious voices in Australian comedy." - Wil Anderson

Eric Hutton - Eric Hutton has been a shiny, well oiled cog in the Sydney alternative comedy robot since he started performing seven years ago at the age of four. Eric has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 3 times and destroyed audiences in places as diverse as London, Manchester, Scotland, Paris, Latvia, Estonia, Finland and Hong-Kong. He has received glowing reviews, and was once attacked on stage in one of East London's notoriously warm and inviting stand up rooms.

Alice Fraser - Winner of the inaugural Homebake Comedy Competition and nominated for best newcomer at the Sydney Comedy Festival 2013, Alice is a self-described thought nerd, word geek and deed doer. If her charming and occasionally musical brand of humour doesn't work on you, she'll simply wring laughter from you by sheer intellectual force. You've been warned.

Jen Carnovale - Jen has returned to Australia after two years touring the UK, Europe and Asia. Selected as one of the 'Top Ten Next Big Things in Comedy' by the Sydney Morning Herald, her stories range from hilarious, confessional yarns on subjects no one wants to talk about, to hilarious, confessional yarns on subjects no one wants to hear about. Also some nice stuff too.
