Coda Conduct Launch New Single 'Paint It Gold'

Hip hop duo Coda Conduct have released a brand-new, fly-as-funk single, and it's everything you never knew you needed.

Paint It Gold is the first release from the ladies since their debut EP, Butter Side Up, dropped in March. The EP saw Coda Conduct quickly gain attention, appearing on Triple J Breakfast, being chosen as Triple J Unearthed Feature Artist, playing Groovin The Moo in Canberra, and receiving airplay across the country.

Now, the pair are back in earnest with a sassy, finger-clicking-good new banger. With chimes, claves and a funk-ridden bassline, Paint It Gold is a smoother, more melodic step forward for the duo.

"It's different to anything we've done before," says half of Coda Conduct, Erica Mallett, "but we like keeping people on their toes! Butter Side Up had lots of 'look, I can rap!' moments - with Paint It Gold we wanted to focus on writing a cohesive song, and have fun with the delivery."

This cohesion is perhaps aided by the fact that the beat is self-produced, with the other half of the duo, Sally Coleman, leading the way on creating the instrumental.

"I guess when I make our beats it becomes a more collaborative process." she says. "We'll start writing lyrics to a basic loop and the beat grows out of those vocals - in this case it meant we had a lot more fun playing with melodies and harmonies."

Production had an added boost from Simon Cohen (301 Studios), who's worked with artists such as Tuka, Horrorshow and Illy. Paint It Gold marks the start of a new chapter for Coda Conduct, and it's now available on Triple J Unearthed and Soundcloud, with iTunes, Spotify and more coming soon.
