Event Details

Learn the fundamentals of surface techniques in this 8-week Tuesday morning ceramics course for beginners.

Ceramics - On the surface

8 x Tuesdays, 11 October - 29 November 2016

9:30 - 12pm Tutor: Vanessa Owens

Intimate class size: maximum 10 students

You will make your own shallow oval and round ceramic dishes with one piece press moulds to create a blank canvas ready to explore the various finishing techniques.

Full instruction is provided on materials, products, tools, equipment and studio procedures.

Following the end of the course, your fired work will be available for collection so you can show-off your creations.

Intimate class size: maximum 10 students. Each student will have their own workspace.

Level: designed for complete beginners as well as enthusiasts who have some experience

Wear: comfortable clothing (aprons provided)

Bring: yourself - all materials provided

Next level class: It is recommended students complete at least two beginner classes before considering more intermediate to advanced levels. Please discuss with your tutor.

About our tutor: Vanessa Owens

Vanessa has worked as a community and practicing artist for over 15 years. During this time she has participated in various group and solo exhibitions in Sydney and abroad. Primarily working in porcelain, Vanessa is also experienced in hand building and wheel throwing ceramics. She enjoys using historical and traditional materials in a contemporary context. Vanessa also has a strong interest in site-specific art and has participated in many community art events including the Art Traffic Signal Box Project, Love Your Lane, and Harmony Day exhibitions.
