There is quite a stir surrounding America's latest soul sensation, Allen Stone. Perhaps it's because the 25 year old has drawn comparisons to Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Prince, Donny Hathaway and Bill Withers (The New York Times). Or that the self proclaimed 'hippy with soul' or rather the 'hipster with soul' with his oversized cardigans, long blonde hair and thick-rimmed glasses, has been selling out shows from Coast to Coast. One thing for sure is that Allen Stone can sing, and the raw, soulful power of his voice is winning him an adoring fan base world-wide, as USA Today puts it, he is the "pitch perfect powerhouse".

"..Allen Stone has the best effing voice I've ever heard" - MTV

"..his voice and energy reminds listeners of music legends like Stevie Wonder and Prince" - CNN

Stone is the son of a preacher man, and like many soul singers, he got his start in church. Surrounded by gospel music, Allen didn't discover soul music until he was a teenager and started collecting classic albums from the 60's and 70's. Allen says of the genre; "Soul music from that time wasn't just about bumpin' and grindin' at the club- it was a huge part of a cultural movement. That's where my inspiration comes from".

From the Church to the screen, Allen's first national TV appearance on "Conan" came after the music booker saw a youTube video of Allen performing in his mother's living room ( The Clip has now been viewed 1.8million times and growing) . Since then, he has appeared on Ellen, Jimmy Kimmel Live and Last Call with Carson Daly just to name a few.

Allen debut album was the self released Last To Speak (2010) he was then signed to ATO records who re-released his second, self titled album (2012). Allen Stone jumped into the Top 10 of Billboard's Heatseekers Chart and entered the Top 5 of iTunes R&B/ Soul Charts. The album, set for release in Australia in March 15th 2013 features some of the darker topics of Allen's era, "Contact High" is a striking commentary on the toll technology has taken on relationships and the sensuous sounding "Unaware" is a sly examination of the current economic crisis.

Allen Stone is definitely taking the shortcut to stardom, make sure you see him before you can't get your hands on a ticket.

ALICE TERRY

At the tender age of 23, Alice Terry sings with the soul of a Southern Gospel singer, creating a rich blend of folk, Memphis blues and jazz. She sounds like she's had three husbands and killed them all. It's clear that Terry has music in her veins. From the small coastal town of Moruya, her songs are raw and rootsy, with the soul of her country upbringing. The shades of jazz and pop/rock that colour her tunes are distinctively urban though, and whisper a sophistication and worldliness beyond her years.

"Sydney singer-songwriter Alice Terry has managed to successfully combine our favourite elements of folk, jazz and blues, and create this music which is both sexy and heartbreaking all at the same time." - Timber and Steel
