A special double bill event with two of Hip Hop's supreme lyricists.

Brother Ali will return to Australia for the first time since his 2008 Falls Festival appearance with Atmosphere and Sean Price will be making his first ever trip to Australia (and the first for any Duck Down label artist). Both artists will be showcasing tracks from their brand new albums and dropping their respective classic tunes that have put them both at the top of their game!

Brother Ali

Raised in various areas in the American mid-west before settling in Minnesota, Brother Ali has lived with the rare genetic condition of albinism (a disorder characterised by a lack of pigment in skin, eyes, and hair), which has caused him to become legally blind. Enduring a childhood of social alienation, Ali found a means of survival in Hip Hop, inspired by golden era emcees such as Rakim and KRS One.

Brother Ali's career began with the release of a cassette-only demo tape called 'Rites of Passage'; which Ali produced, recorded and arrangedhimself in 2000. The tape cemented his relationship with the local independent hip-hop label Rhymesayers Entertainment.

His following studio releases 'Shadows of the Sun' (2003), 'The Undisputed Truth' (2007) and 'Us' (2009) were collaborations with label-mate and Atmosphere producerAnt. Ali's politically charged and empathetic deliberation found him much acclaim from underground fans and media alike, and solidified him as an undisputed Master of Ceremony.

Brother Ali appeared as The Source's "Hip Hop Quotable" in August 2007, from a verse in "Uncle Sam Goddamn", and was also featured in Rolling Stone as a "New Artist to Watch".

Fully recharged and inspired by his eye-opening first trip to Mecca, the 2011 uprisings in the Middle East, and the world wide Occupy movements, Brother Ali has released his fourth full-length studio album 'Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color' Helmed by platinum-selling producer Jake One (50 Cent, T.I., Wiz Khalifa), Ali's new album features guest appearance from esteemed author/ professor Dr. Cornel West, revered Southern hip-hop icon Bun B, and Def Poetry Jam poet Amir Sulaiman. Along with keen observations on topics such as race, the Occupy movement, and the hypocrisy of war, Ali's new album presents a scathing yet honest critique of America and its many flaws while simultaneously presenting a hopeful outlook of its possibilities. In an age of hip-hop where the paradigm of swag over substance reigns supreme, few emcees are willing to use their platform to tackle the pressing social issues of our time - but it's apparent that Brother Ali is one of those few.

Sean Price

Brooklyn, New York native rapper, Sean Price has been a staple in the New York underground Hip Hop scene for almost two decades. He came to fame as one-half of the duo Heltah Skeltah, under the name Ruck releasing two albums: 'Nocturnal' (1996) & 'Magnum Force' (1998). Price is also a core member of the legendary Boot Camp Clik collective and has been a key and stand out contributor to all three of their collaborative releases.

Not to be outdone, Sean proved he was more then up to the task as a solo-artist as well, as he contributed one of 2005's most critically acclaimed and talked about LP's with his solo-debut 'Monkey Barz', which garnished multiple accolades, including being named Source Magazine's Indie LP of the year, a place on Urb Magazine's "Hot 100 list" inclusion in the Village Voice's yearly "Pazz And Jop" poll, 2005 Indie LP of the year from Allhiphop.com and Indie LP of the year nods fromHiphopsite.com, Hiphopdx.com, Soundslam.com, MVremix.com and Sixshot.com.

That same year he released a mixtape entitled 'Kimbo Price' which served as a prelude to P's upcoming album 'Mic Tyson', which has a release date for October 30th 2012. Hip Hop purists have long recognized and appreciated Sean's commanding delivery, gruff voice and adroit verses. He mixes his rhyming techniques, with his words weaving in a way that sounds comfortable while creating hilarious punchlines. One thing is for certain -  'Mic Tyson' is set to be another classic!
