A reading of Pat Grant's award-winning graphic novel BLUE. This is a live, mixed-media experience with comic-book art projected on the big screen, actors reading the voices and a live musical score.

Producer Gabriel Clarke said: "How would I describe the show? It's a little bit like reading a comic, it's a little bit like going to see a band, it's a little bit like listening to a podcast."

To get a sense of this new hybrid form you can watch the author of Blue reading his short comic Toormina Video with live sound at the Sydney Opera House as part of GRAPHIC / RADIO WITH PICTURES in 2013. http://radiowithpictures.com.au/toormina-video-4

BLUE is published in the USA, France, Italy and Australia. The book has won multiple awards and was listed as one of the great graphic novels of 2012 by the U.S. culture journal Salon.

It is a story about three kids growing up in Bolton, a coastal town somewhere north of Wollongong and south of Sydney. Bolton is quiet - the sort of place where one might spend an idyllic childhood - but as the story opens things are about to change. Strange blue-skinned foreigners have started landing on the beaches in strange home-made boats. This is an uncomfortable story about childhood, racism and what it means to be Australian.

An inspired score of music and live foley accompanies the story led by Russell Webster (Shining Bird) with Matthew Steffen (Decoder Ring), Zac Hary (Ya-aha) Carlos Adura (Strides) and DaneTaylor (Shining Bird)
