Two of Melbourne's finest singer songwriters, Jed Rowe and Ben Mastwyk, join forces for a special night of music as they both launch their brand releases in the iconic setting of the Melba Spiegeltent, Collingwood. Built in Belgium in 1910, the Spiegeltent travelled across Europe, hosting countless performances from such luminaries as Edith Piaf. Mastwyk and Rowe look forward to performing in the famed atmosphere of the venue and adding their own small chapter to it's rich history.
Jed Rowe's music walks the line between folk, blues and country, and his 4th album A Foreign Country is a richly told collection of stories of Australian life. Paradoxically, many of the songs were finished while Rowe was on tour in Europe late in 2016. During the month long stint Rowe spent his down time in a rented apartment above the street in Northern Germany, working through his collected song ideas and crafting them into the songs on A Foreign Country. It is the work of a songwriter writing about what he knows, but with the perspective of observing it from a distance. The album was co-produced by Rowe and multiple ARIA winner Jeff Lang. Rolling Stone described Rowe's music as "Heartland alt-country shot through with nostalgia."
Ben Mastwyk is a prolific Melbourne songwriter proudly steeped in country music tradition. His second album Winning Streak sees his next chapter of songs erupt into swaggering, psychedelic bar room gems. With his all-star band The MILLION$, Mastwyk explores a broad sonic scope, drawing from a wide range of country's side streams, picking up the pace from his slow and steady debut Mornin Evenin which received strong reviews and a nomination for Best Country Album (The Age Music Victoria Awards). Mastwyk followed with an Australasian tour, a showcase performance at Nashville's iconic Bluebird and a second writing sojourn throughout America's south where he penned the majority of material for his sophomore LP.
