Yours & Owls Sundays are steamin' through another summer, and we've teamed up with some of our favourite labels, collectives and taste-makers in the process. For a few select weeks, the curation will be undertaken by various friends from around Aus to display their flavour to the 'Gong. This week it's:

Bedroom Suck Records

w/ the line-up as follows:

Tia Gostelow

David Blumberg & The Maraby Band

The Maraby Homestead is half an hour outside of Hawker, South Australia; close to Wilpena Pound and the Flinders Ranges. It is owned by the Telfer family, who ran sheep on the land for several generations. The most recent tenants of the house thought that the world was going to end and as a result made steps to make the property entirely self-sufficient. The world didn't end when they thought it would, and they moved back to Adelaide. The house is now vacant.

Behind the house is a hill. If you know the area well enough to know which rocks are indigenous to that specific hill you can find old cutting tools left behind by the traditional owners of the land; the Adnyamathanha people. These tools are small rocks that have been carved to a sharp point, with an area worn away where gripped by the thumb.

The house has several disused sheds in various states of ruin surrounding it and the land is covered with ancient farming machinery. There are creeks that rarely run and tracks that lead to disused windmills.

In February 2014, ten young musicians from Adelaide found themselves stranded here, and spent the following two weeks recording an Australian bush opera encompassing themes of love, romance, train-driving, ghosts, Scottish castles and good jazz. Their engineer, Tom Spall, sweated it out in the master bedroom of the house, while members of the band rigged up their guitar amps to run through corrugated iron echo-chambers and recorded group harmonies in the rat-ridden kitchen. They have since released the opus as 'Gertrude' on the Drongo Tracks label, including a single which appeared as part of the Milk! Records and Bedroom Suck subscription vinyl series, Split Singles Club. They are touring nationally in support of this opus.

Rackett

RACKETT make loud and experimental punk-pop. In one year, the band have moved from virtual anonymity to playing in major theatres and festivals throughout Australia, receiving regular airplay on community and commercial radio, features in Rolling Stone Magazine, become the featured talent in national campaign for General Pants and earned a reputation for "Thrilling live shows, a technically proficient and powerful sound, and a DIY hyper-femme aesthetic", The BRAG. Supporting the likes of Abbe May, The Bennies, Sticky Fingers, DZ Deathrays and having completed national touring with The Darkness (UK), Killing Heidi and Stonefield, the band have crafted an adventurous live show described by The Music, as "It's intense, it's magical".
