Event Details

Following a sell-out show in 2016, Ay Pachanga will once again transform The Basement into a buzzing party venue, filled with Latin-Jazz and salsa rhythms. Celebrating the world’s largest Latin label, Fania Records, it will feature a 10 piece band, award winning Latin Dancers, a DJ and later in the evening a dance floor where audience members can groove along to Fania connoisseur DJ Tropicante Sound Sistema.

Music Director Martin Taylor (Mucho Mambo) is returning with his stellar lineup of top Australians musicians hailing from bands such as Son Veneno, Mucho Mambo, El Orqueston, Barrio Soul and Sydney Salsa All Stars. The show will feature singers Merenia Marin (Barefoot Divas) and international singer/songwriter Gonzalo Porta - who was recently awarded both Artist of the Year and Song of the Year with Promomusic BCN (Barcelona), with his song Sola Mia.

Bringing the famous Latin dances of the '60s and '70s - Latin boogaloo, salsa, and mambo - to the stage will be award-winning dancers Juan Ruiz and Josie Cote from Tropical Soul Dance Studio, Maya Sheridan-Martinez and Cyrus Henry of Dance Studio 101 and El Moro of Buena Vista Dance. They will collaborate in a colourful showcase celebrating the street styles of Latin New York in the Fania era.

Fania Records is renowned for housing some of the greatest pioneers of Salsa music, a style of music that was born in New York in the 60s and 70s that fused musical genres such as Cuban Son, Mambo and Latin Jazz. Some of the label's artists include Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Ray Barreto, Willie Colon, and Ruben Blades (just to name a few) and showcased a melting pot of musical influences derived from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, America and Panam .
