The Murlocs release ‘Noble Soldier’, the first single from their third album due mid-2017.

'Noble Soldier' - the first single from The Murlocs' third album - is three joyful minutes of hip-swinging garage and rolling rhythm-and-blues. Lo-fi and melodic, it's a sprawling locomotive of a tune; the kind that induces involuntary foot tapping, head nodding and repeat listens.

Of the track, singer and lyricist Ambrose Kenny-Smith says the story is one of "grit and glory" and "all that's beautifully bitter in the world".

"The track paints the picture of an everyday forgotten hero-turned-vagabond, chugging along for hope despite failure. 'Noble Soldier' sticks to its traditional pop guns of rhythm-and-blues generated railroad rock," he says.

The single was produced by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard frontman Stu Mackenzie, and is the first track from the upcoming Murlocs album, due out on the prolific Flightless Records in July.

The video for 'Noble Soldier' will mess with your mind. In a good way, we think. Made by Alex McLaren, it also commands repeat watches and features some choice cameos by Flightless label-mates.

Since forming in 2011, the five-piece from Victoria's surf coast have released a steady stream of acclaimed EPs and albums, sold out heaps of their own headline shows, and supported some true musical titans, the most recent being Pixies on their national Australian tour.

'Recently announced for the 2017 Splendour in the Grass line-up, The Murlocs will first take 'Noble Soldier' out for a spin, with headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne this May.
