Event Details

Johnny G & The E Types is Sydney’s premier soul show. Their latest Soul Revue showcases the classics from the legendary STAX recording studio in Memphis, Tennessee and FAME recording studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Dance all night to the hits of Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Wilson Picket, Eddie Floyd, Percy Sledge, Sam and Dave, Etta James and more.

Between 1959 and 1975, the now legendary STAX Records, in Memphis, Tennessee, released international chart-topping hits such as "Soul Man," "Sitting On The Dock of the Bay," "Green Onions," "Midnight Hour," "Mustang Sally", "Hard To Handle", "Knock On Wood", "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love", "Mr Big Stuff", "These Arms Of Mine" and "Respect Yourself ". STAX's trail-blazing artists included the 'King of Soul' Otis Redding, 'Sultans of Sweat' Sam & Dave, Eddie Floyd, Rufus and Carla Thomas, the Staple Singers, Booker T and The MGs, and many more.

In the 1950s, Rick Hall established the internationally renowned FAME recording studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. FAME produced a phenomenal number of soul classics with artists including Aretha Franklin, Wilson Picket, Etta James and Percy Sledge.

Johnny G & the E Types have gained notoriety for their sell out Memphis Soul Revue concerts. Much like the legendary Booker T & The MGs and the Memphis Horns, Johnny G & The E Types have been wooing audiences as the sharp dressed backing band for Sydney's finest soul vocalists delivering these STAX and FAME soul classics in their raw and original form. This is the southern soul that inspired films including The Sapphires, The Blues Brothers and The Commitments - with the credibility and raw energy that comes from Memphis and Muscle Shoals 1967. Dig it!

Johnny G & The E Types nine piece band will perform the soul classics of Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Eddie Floyd, Wilson Picket, Percy Sledge, Etta James and Booker T & The M.G.'s plus the sensational hits of Sam & Dave. Sam & Dave were know as "Double Dynamite", "The Sultans of Sweat", and "The Dynamic Duo" for their gritty, gospel-infused performances.

We'd like to introduce you to one of the finest soul shows Australia has to offer -

Legendary keyboardist Johnny (G) Gauci on Hammond and Piano (Ed Kuepper, Leonardo's Bride, Perry Keyes, Dom Turner & Supro); front man Sam "Soul Man" Bennett (The Super Heavyweights); "Soul Sista # 1" Julz Di Sisto (Ngariie, David Campbell, Bobby Fox); Nick Meredith (Cotton Keyes & Morris, Tim Finn, C, Matt Finish) on guitar; drums from Antero Ceschin (Continental Blues Party, The Mighty Reapers); Dave 'Hitman" Harding (Eugene "Hideaway" Bridges, Red Rivers, The Foreday Riders) on bass; Murray Jackson on saxophone (Jersey Boys, The Mothership Orchestra); and Simon Ferenci on trumpet (King John Cleary, Watussi).
