Within the rules of pop music, there's great freedom. EX-CASSETTE play with those rules, and they revel in the freedom. Their music explores the possibilities of pop music, drawing on the band's diverse influences. Jess Ossington (vocals) and John Romeo (guitarist) met years ago and started spending weekends crafting songs in John's home studio, but it was when Rob Di Marzo (drums) and Matt Johnson (bass) joined that the band developed that bonding sound that allowed them to explore the sweetest of pop melodies and the dirtiest of guitar tones and everything in between, yet still sound
like EX-CASSETTE.

Whilst previous releases 'Digital Heart' and 'Hollywood Romance' were playful pastiche to pop icons of the 80s and 90s, EX-CASSETTE's most recent single, 'Doublesex' shows a new side to the band. It's dark, brooding, and builds to a chorus which is anthemic and almost euphoric, mirroring the
emotional juxtaposition of its lyrics. The song breathes and undulates, always teetering on the edge of release.
Recorded in the backstreets of Coogee in Sydney, the track was produced and mixed by Luke Bertoz (Tales in Space, Dappled Cities) and mastered by Leon Zervos at Studios 301.

To celebrate the release of 'Doublesex' the band are performing a headline show at Sydney's Oxford Art Factory Gallery Bar on Thursday 28 th June, joined by Aikonawena and Jack's Band.
